“Perioperative Nursing Safety and Wellness”.

The World Health Organization named 2020 “The Year of the Nurse”. During this pandemic, our nurses have been resilient in ensuring our patients are kept safe and well cared for. No other team knows sterilization and infection control better than the OR nurses! I’m proud that Team Surgery has come together to support these west-end heroes.

Since 2015, I ride to keep my St. Joe’s Promise - to promote improved patient care in our community. As Team Leader of Orthopaedic surgery in the Operating Room, I have seen first hand how our fundraising has made a positive impact in surgical patient care.

We have fundraised for an anesthetic block room for patients to receive peripheral nerve blocks and spinals prior to surgery. We succeeded in raising enough funds which resulted in the purchase of new orthopaedic equipment to improve patient care. Our block room now has 2 functioning bays with our recent fundraising achievement of a new ultrasound machine.
